 The theme for National Children's Month in 2024 is "Break the Prevalence, End the violence: Protecting Children, Creating a Safe Philippines."This theme carries a big message to the nation, calling for urgent and immediate actions against thepervasive violence that children experience. We all have a role play, and responsibility, to enforce routines that offer our children a safe and secure environment.The Women's and Children's Protection Units of the Philppine National serve as good models for the kind of environment that must be created, where children are free from the fear of immediate and long-term harassment and damage. A safe environment, reinforced by strict law enforcement with good investigative skills, is the first steptoward Protecting Children.


 Stopping violence against children demands a multi-faceted strategy. Ensuring that laws are in place and that there's good law enforcement is just the tip of the iceberg. What we also need is a major shift in mindset. And that involves a serious-for-real embrace of a culture of empathy, accountability, and respect for children's rights. There's no way to seriously achieve this without a robust involvement of parents, teachers, and community leaders, alongside the government, in the children's space. For the National Children's Month in the Philippines, let's imagine a society where every child can live a life free from fear and violence, day in and day out, statewide.

Let us use this time to reflect on our individual and collective responsibility in safeguarding the future of our children. By working together, we can break the cycle of violence and create a Philippines where every child can flourish.
